NERO FIDDLED Set for June 22 Release Date

Woody Allen is most likely poised to pick up another Oscar on Sunday for his Midnight in Paris screenplay (though don’t expect him to show up at the ceremony), and Sony Pictures Classics has settled on a release date for his next film. Exhibitor Relations tweeted (via The Playlist) Nero Fiddled (previously titled The Bop Decameron) will land on June 22nd. In limited release, the film opens opposite Your Sister’s Sister starring Emily Blunt, while Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Pixar’s Brave, and the dramedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World all open in wide release that weekend. Sony Pictures Classics is not doubt looking to mimic the summer box office performance of Paris, which was Woody’s most successful film to date.

The pic is supposedly comprised of four separate vignettes, two featuring American characters and two featuring Italian characters. Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, Ellen Page, Alison Pill, and Alessandra Mastronardi all star in the film, and Allen himself returns in front of the camera. There’s pressure on the film given how widely loved Midnight in Paris was, so I’m hoping Allen delivers another great one.
