Jesse Eisenberg on Not Having a Facebook Account

Last night’s “Holy Rollers” premiere at Sunshine Cinema brought together Q-Tip, Mary-Kate Olsen and lots of Israeli cameramen – figures you probably wouldn’t expect to see in the same sentence, let alone the same room. The movie, which features Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Bartha (Ashley Olsen’s beau), centers on Orthodox Jews who are recruited into an ecstasy-smuggling ring – events roughly based on a true story circa 1999. Q-Tip told us he signed on to do the film because he’s broke, but that’s got some things in the works with Kanye. He also lauded the beauty of Ethiopian Jews and mumbled something to the effect of blacks and Jews taking the world over together.

Mary-Kate flashed what could be her first smile since 2002’s “When in Rome,” but wouldn’t take any questions. Ari Graynor, the scene-stealer from “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” was more forthcoming and told Speakeasy she prefers “nerdy, intellectual Jews” to Israeli, chest-baring alpha males.

Earlier in the day, we sat down with Jesse Eisenberg at Avenue, a spot that looks considerably different in daylight. He told us he brushed up on his Yiddish and Hebrew accents for the film and that immersing himself in the prayers recalled his Hebrew day-school days. When we asked him about his upcoming role as Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s “The Social Network,” Eisenberg said he’s not into Facebook or Twitter. So the person we friended on Facebook wasn’t in fact him? “No, no,” he said chuckling. “I don’t want to come home and deal with a Facebook page. Fame makes you narcissistic enough without having to write about yourself all the time.” Via Wall Street Journal
