Sorry to hear about the interview in Spain, I agree with the type of poor interview that took place, the TV SHOW is basically conducted by a “hand-picked” host, that has poor skills and obviously no style or politeness.
You are more than welcome to Spain any time, but get some advise before choosing the TV show. I really like your job and there are plenty more shows where you’d get the right treatment.
    Cheers,
    Jose

Pd. No WWII in Spain, just check your history books, we had a Dictator “running” the country at that time, poor us.

Me, being Spanish although not leaving there since 2005, want to apology for the behavior of this Spanish television channel. You deserve much more. Sadly there are a lot of talk shows that has lost the sense of respect for any guest start, american or not.

Spanish tv can be easily the worst television in the europe. I am sorry you had to experiment it, and I hope you make them clear, that you will advise other people to do not promote their movies in this show.

However, about helping Spain during the WW2 I doubt it, we had a dictatorship from 1939 until 1973, and nobody did anything at all. You can use that argument with the rest of Europe but not with us.

Spain never participated in the WWII… and the US never sent planes to Spain during the WWII… you must read some History…. now you may understand why some people may laugh of some americans… BTW: I saw the interview live and never had the feeling that they were laughing of you… it was WITH you… that makes a difference…

    • I’m pretty sure Jesse meant the whole of Europe with his comments, I don’t think he meant to single out Spain, and I certainly didn’t think that’s who he included in those sarcastic comments anyway – he was just giving one example of a bad interview experience and, sadly, since he’d mentioned that country previously it came across as though he just meant Spain and nowhere else. He’s a smart guy, I’m sure he’s aware of the history. If you follow him and watch any other interview he’s done, you’ll see that he’s a very sarcastic person and I doubt he meant anything in a malicious way. I’m sure he’d apologise if he became aware that’s how his comments came across.

You also have to remember that if Spanish is your first language, whatever was said in the interview by the interviewer would have made complete sense to you. A lot of jokes and the true intent of things is more often than not lost in translation. We don’t know what was said into his ear piece, it could very easily be a poor translation that made him think the interviewers were laughing at him, not with him.

Steph: probably he’s a nice guy, probably he got a partial translation (I agree it’s impossible to get the complete sense in every joke), for sure he’s smart and talented… but I don’t think he’s aware of History … I would recommend him to relax and enjoy: that’s the best way not to see in every corner people hating americans and laughing at them…

    • Like I said, if you watch other interviews you’ll see that he is smart – especially when it comes to geography and history. He’s mentioned random things to prove this, but of course being smart doesn’t mean he knows everything about WWII – but this also doesn’t make him a dumb American like a few people have been saying this proves. Also, again, I don’t think that comment technically just meant Spain anyway. He was also trying to just make a joke that clearly fell flat for many people.

He’s a really nervous person and I don’t think he actually can relax. Even on English speaking talk shows he’s always on edge so I can understand that’s only heightened on a show not speaking his first language.

I’m not American anyway so I’m not saying all this in defense of them being offended, by the way :)

Also, to everyone else: Jesse doesn’t run this site – A friend and I do. So any comments aimed at him won’t actually be seen by him, so it’s probably a wasted effort venting frustrations as though directly to him over this. :)
