i’m procrastinating before i look at the vid because i’m afraid what will happen…
    ——
after 10 minutes of snuffling around old gossip posts i’m back and deciding to hit the play button
    ——
I have to say the rolling on the carpet kicking & hitting moment looks very ungenuine… what’s up with the toddler feet kicking? and the table blocking the audience from seeing less-than-halfhearted punches…

but I like the last bit a whole lot. LOLLL biggest highlight of the 2 minutes.

was that the best friend’s sister who’s um, bending down a little and whose cleavage is modestly showing itself? (what’s the point of putting in this moment, exactly?)

well the Nick character does seem confident. And endearing. And only the smallest slightest hint of awkward.
And um, a little too clean & tidy, actually… I mean for a slacker and single-guy-living-alone character. Those T-shirt & jeans look so clean I feel like Nick’s mother washes them for him. maybe they look that way because of the plain colours. (which look good on Jesse but still.)

Trailers don’t always capture the deeper context of the film, sometimes scenes in the trailers aren’t even in the film — thats what I am saying to myself as I watch this trailer because I really wanted to love it…..but I didn’t.

Only the lines delivered by Aziz and Danny were funny in this trailer (which surprised me because I’m not particularly fond of the actors in their other work) and I can’t put my finger on Nick’s character. Someone else mentioned he looked too clean, and I agree — his character is a slacker pothead but everything about him screams Mark Zuckerberg in a pizza delivery guy costume. Also, the exchange between Aziz and Jesse about his sister was really not believable at all. The only part I really enjoyed was the exchange in the school — Jesse’s horrified look is priceless.

I’m still going to see the movie in August because I love Jesse Eisenberg – but I really hope his character pops more than shown in this trailer.

JuL, maybe a slacker who is a neat freak? LOL

I think–judging from the trailer–Jesse is no longer the awkward nerd we loved in “Zombieland” and “Adventureland.” There’s a swagger here that’s very noticeable. And I just have to point out how good he looks in every scene, which is the best part of the trailer for me.

Though I’m still not completely sold, I wish the film success.

@ cecille: I don’t doubt that he can play a swaggering slacker~ SNL performances took care of that. LOL and he’s very far away from a nerd. We’ve all been rooting for a break from typecasting haven’t we?

just that I worry. because there’s something about Jesse that’s so non-aggressive and reticent, that the swagger he puts on feels just a tiny bit of ungenuine. It came out a tiny tiny bit forceful during the first scene in the trailer. I think he did a great job but the cleanliness and the stiff body language got in the way. There’s especially something about his sitting that looks – well, not like 100% comfortable. About 50%.

That’s partly why I thought Jesse & the director might choose to build on the Nick character’s insecurities and emphasize that side by making a rude, ranting, self-pitying miserable anti-social slightly-cowardly character. Which could still be something new enough for Jesse but on safer grounds. But obviously I was off. (It’s supposed to be a comedy for god’s sake.)

Swaggering roles are what we want to see but Jesse is not yet amazing in them. I hope he keeps getting such roles anyway and build on it.

and he does look good. delicious, in fact. XD

I don’t mean to be a prude, but I see absolutely nothing funny about this film. I do not want to go as far as to say this is “based” on a true event, but it isn’t like they pulled this story line out of thin air. Brian Well died because of a situation incredibly similar to this. No movie should be made that reflects such a specific and horrific ordeal that led to the death of someone as light hearted and funny. I just find this film in such bad taste.

JuL, Jesse is a freight train of confidence! LOL! He can certainly do swagger ;)

I really am curious of how Jesse acts in this but the more I read about the real life event which is allegedly the basis for this movie, the more I feel uneasy about it.
